Intimate “I Do’s” & Secret Courtyards: Kim & Terri’s Colchester Wedding
We’ve got to share this lovely day with you all. Kim and Terri tied the knot at the absolutely charming Colchester Town Hall, and it was such a special, intimate affair.
Surrounded by only their closest family and friends, the vibe was entirely focused on love and connection. Smaller weddings like this have a unique energy—everything feels a bit calmer, a bit more personal, and it makes capturing those candid interactions so rewarding for us.
A Stroll Through History
After the ceremony, we took advantage of the location. We wandered through the historic Colchester High Street, making our way over to Colchester Castle Park for the creative portraits.
The park is such a gem for photography. We were lucky enough to have the sun shining down, providing the perfect light for some romantic couple shots against the backdrop of the castle and the gardens. We also managed to spice things up with a fun confetti toss! The laughter during those moments was contagious—confetti shots are always some of our favourites because the joy is just so genuine.
Cocktails in the Courtyard
After the vows, we took a short stroll to the Colchester Castle Park for group shots and couple portraits. The atmosphere was buzzing. You could just feel the happiness radiating from everyone.
Once we wrapped up the outdoor photos, we headed back up the High Street to The George Hotel. If you haven’t been, you might not know about their “Secret Courtyard.” It honestly feels like a hidden gem right in the middle of town.
The couple hosted drinks there, with cocktails flowing while gifts were exchanged. It created such a warm, relaxed space for everyone to mingle before heading inside. The evening flowed into heartfelt speeches and a delicious meal in the restaurant. You could really feel the happiness in the room—it was one of those days that reminds us why we love being part of such beautiful moments.

The George is a staple in Colchester, but following its recent £10 million restoration, it’s looking better than ever. Here are a few tips if you are planning your wedding reception here:
The Secret Courtyard: As we mentioned, this is a must-use space! It’s bright and lovely, perfect for outdoor mingling or a cocktail reception. It gives guests a refreshing breath of fresh air while keeping the party intimate.
Mood Lighting: The restoration has really enhanced the historic charm of the building. We recommend embracing that heritage by using mood lighting in the evening—it creates a cozy, intimate atmosphere that looks fantastic in photos.
