Autumn Glow & Audio Surprises at All Saints, Great Oakley
It was one of those days in the Essex countryside that felt just right from the very start.
We kicked things off at All Saints Church in Great Oakley. It’s a charming spot, cozy enough to feel intimate, but spacious enough that we aren’t tripping over guests! As usual, we arrived early to soak in the vibe and scout out the best spots for group shots before the guests flooded in. Having been here before, we had a good sense of the layout, but the light is different every time, so that scouting time is gold.
A POV Surprise
This wedding had a lovely little twist. The bride had a surprise in store for the groom and asked if we could capture the ceremony on video as well.
This was the perfect excuse to use our new “hybrid” setup. We rigged a small action camera (our trusty DJI Action 4) to the top of my main camera. It allowed me to shoot photos as normal while capturing a perfect Point-Of-View video of the vows. I can’t wait for them to watch that footage back, it really lets you relive the anticipation and those nerves from a first-person perspective!
Tears & Golden Fields
The ceremony itself was beautiful. We divided and conquered as always: Emma stationed herself at the back to capture the bride and her dad stepping out of the car, while I was poised at the front to catch the groom’s reaction.
Meeting the Reverend beforehand was a breeze (always a bonus!), and he guided us perfectly on where to stand. But the real tear-jerker was the bride’s audio surprise. She played a recording of their kids sharing sweet sentiments about their dad. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house!
After a confetti shower outside, we stole the couple away for portraits. We really lucked out with the weather. We strolled down a scenic country road and found an empty field just as the sun was peeking through the trees. That autumn light was absolutely magical, it gave us those warm, sun-kissed shots that we love.
Village Hall Vibes
The reception was held at the local village hall, and honestly, the vibe was electric. It was a proper party, incredible dance moves, sparklers lighting up the night, and a very relaxed atmosphere. We even managed to wrangle the groomsmen for some group shots (who were definitely more at ease after a drink or two!).
It was a day where everything, from the heartfelt tech surprises to the golden hour light blended perfectly.
