Winter Elegance and Grand Suites: A February Wedding at Gosfield Hall
As I usually do, I arrived a bit early to take a quiet walk around the venue before the buzz of the day kicked in. The grounds here are absolutely fantastic. There are photo opportunities on all four sides of the historic building, plus a perfectly quaint courtyard right in the middle. Being a February wedding, it was a cloudy day, but luckily the weather held out for us!
The Ultimate Bridal Suite
We divided and conquered for the morning prep. Our otherphotographer headed off to capture the groomsmen as they arrived, while I headed inside to meet the bride and her bridesmaids.
I just have to say, the bridal suite at Gosfield Hall is easily one of the best I have ever seen. It is incredibly grand, with soaring high ceilings and massive windows that make it wonderfully light and spacious. It gave the bridal party plenty of room to relax, and it gave us photographers the perfect directional light to work with for those morning detail shots.
Singing in the Queen’s Gallery
The ceremony took place inside the stunning Queen’s Gallery. It is a beautifully long, narrow room lined with rich wooden paneled walls, which creates a wonderfully cozy and intimate atmosphere.
Typically, ceremonies last about half an hour, but this was a beautifully religious-focused service that lasted an hour. You might think an hour feels long, but the celebrant was absolutely incredible. His energy, combined with plenty of joyful singing throughout, made the time absolutely fly by.
As the ceremony wrapped up, the couple walked back down the aisle to a massive indoor confetti shower! It’s always a great fallback for winter weddings when you don’t want to risk the wind outside. Afterwards, they snuck off to the venue’s Library, a gorgeous, moody bar and lounge area to share a quiet drink and let it sink in that they were finally married.
Diffused Light and Courtyard Strolls
A little while later, we took the newlyweds for a stroll around the grounds for their couple’s portraits.
This is where that overcast February weather actually became our best friend. Cloudy skies act like a giant softbox, giving us beautiful, diffused light that is incredibly flattering for portraits. We utilized the courtyard and the stunning architecture of the hall to get some fantastic, relaxed shots of the two of them before they headed back in to celebrate with their guests.
Gosfield Hall has quickly become one of my favorite wedding venues, and we are already looking forward to returning very soon!
